As you may have noticed, I've been toying with my blog design some more today. I added a menu and a new header collage. I just started putting the Bio and other stuff behind the menus, but I should have all that over the weekend. I still think the header is a little wide and busy so I'll be refining that this weekend....tinker, tinker, tinker.
The Google + writing APE ~ How To Write A Book, community is great. The group has not only writers, but people with knowledge, skills, and experience in design, typography, marketing, social media, branding and storytelling. I've learned a great deal these last few weeks.
On another note, Jilda and I let our passports expire last year. We filled out our applications and had photos made, but it seemed she was dragging her feet when it came to finalizing the applications and getting them in the mail.
Well, today she finally told me that she HATED the passport photos we had made. I thought to myself, I can remedy this. On the way to the post office, I took a detour by the local UPS mail store. I had a hunch they did passport photos and I was right.
We went inside and I told the young woman behind the counter that we wanted passport photos and I requested the non-convict shots. The girl howled. She did warn that the State Department wanted really closeup photos against a pasty white background, but she promised to do her best. She snapped a few photos, and we walked out of the store smiling.
I hope you all have a remarkable weekend.

I'm loving the look of you blog...very professional! I laughed at your passport pain..or Jilda's anyway! We had to get a passport when we went on an Alaskan cruise because we'd be going into Canada. Jack's pic look good..like Jack..mine looked awful..like someone took over my face. But when the people at the border didn't even flinch or double check to make sure this weird creature in the pic was really me..well, I was so depressed because I must really look like the pic on passport. I'm never leaving this country again.
ReplyDeletelol Our passports also look convict style. They are very strict taking these pics. You can't smile .
ReplyDeletebut we got ours quickly.
I love the sunrise (or sunset) on your blog. It's really futuristic looking.
Headers are fun to mess around with. I just had to get my driver's lic. renewed and that is another, zip, zip, look this way and good bye.
ReplyDeleteIf you walked out smiling, you got a winner.
We've had the exact same experience with bad passport shots. Ugh. Glad you all got them redone~
ReplyDeleteOh those passport photos are so ridiculous... we are not supposed to look like ourselves. I smile most of the time unless I'm not happy. What the heck are they afraid of... that our smile breaks and they wont recognizes us from the passport photo.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly I said to the photographer when I had mine renewed. Geez, I look like an escaped convict... lol
With some people it doesn't matter because they seldom smile but to me it's painful to look at my passport photo.
Hope you sort out all the this and that with Google +

At least you don't have to hang your passport photos on the wall! Wishing you wonderful travels!
ReplyDeleteThese things matter to women. So glad you listened to her and realized it!
ReplyDeleteFunny story about the passports. It is interesting that I had to make a "dig" for my son's passport this week. It was somewhere in the bins marked with his name. We are still re-settling after our recent move. It took some searching, but I finally found it. And I discovered that it expires in a couple of weeks. He will be applying for a new passport, also.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Fay
The first time The Hurricane had a passport photo taken, she looked like she was about to vomit. The photo was taken in Wal-Mart. 'Nuf said.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
My passport photo is horrible, but I decided to live with it. I love your new header.
ReplyDeleteSounds like everyone has issues with Passport and driver's license photos.
ReplyDeleteWe should start a petition. BETTER PASSPORT PHOTOS.
Hi Rick
ReplyDeleteAbout the header. I don't think it is too wide at all and not all that busy. It gives people something to look at (well, some people, maybe I should add!!) However - by now maybe you have altered this but the title text could somehow be placed in a section free of photos and be a little larger and in colour.
Have I ever said something like this to you before?
Forgive me if I repeat myself (heh, heh, heh )
