“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” ~ Mark Twain
I've found this quote from Mark Twain to be very true. You can't get a sense of how people live in different places unless you go there and see for yourself.
Jilda and I have traveled some, but there are still so many places we want to see.

So many places to go. So little money. That's a great quotation.

ReplyDeleteYou are both lucky if you travel a lot. The farthes I travel south of here New Brunswick Canada, by car was to Florida, to the west , was to Hamilton on the other side of Toronto and I flew to Scotland.
Here now stuck on the farm, the only way I travel lately is through the eyes of my oldest daughter who is a world traveller. She is an antropologist and study cultures and publishes her works and teaches PHD students in Scotland. She has been to so many countries and reports back to us. The world is sure an interesting mixture of people and customs. My other daughter also travels to far away places like Bankok , Japan and Mexico and I learn from them. It's easy on my pocket book.

I love the concept of free-wheeling travels. That's the way my hubby and I like to do it, too. And that Twain quote is priceless.
ReplyDeleteMakes the 'walk a mile in my shoes' come to life, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHave a good week!
I agree... you can never really know a place until you experience it for yourself... nice post Rick ;-)
ReplyDeleteTraveling is good. Living in different places is better if you really want to learn about things. Many times the tourist only sees what they want you to see. lol
