No place I'd rather be

What if you could flip through a catalog for days and choose anything you like, what would you choose?
Some folks would like a rainy day, with thunder rolling off in the distance. Some people would order up a roaring surf, blazing sun, and shoes full of sand.
I like those days well enough, but if I had a weather catalog, the order for my perfect day would be this:
"I'd like high cirrus clouds, blue sky with lots of sun, but with a nice breeze so it doesn't get too hot."
Today was incredible. We did long-neglected work around the house and afterwards, we visited with friends. On the way home, we stopped to buy some nice steaks.
I fired up the charcoal around five and Jilda did her special marinade. I poured some red wine we'd been saving for special occasions and we had dinner.
Soon the weather will be so hot that we'll be cussing the south like drunken sailors and wondering why we don't leave for Nova Scotia.....but today, there is no place I'd rather be.
Below is the view of the day at 6:45 a.m.

  1. You'd love Nova Scotia in the summer Rick but you'd get back to your home quickly once winter in. Even I want to leave then ;-)

  2. Yes Rick, I agree, we have our long cold winters and you have long hot summers. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or PEI are all great destination for Summer. But the weather is so unsettled lately, we do have more extreme weather lately right across the country...

Sprucing up the house and gardens uplift the soul. It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to boost the moral and lively up the place. Bar-B-Q steaks is a sweet ending.

  3. Hi Rick, Sorry I've been neglectful, but I'm in the throes of studying the alla prima painting technique with Richard Schmid and it's all new to me after decades of being away from it. I

I couldn't agree with you more. Home IS where the heart is. Our hearts cling to Michigan in spite of the horrific winter we had that actually killed off my English Ivy. When the weather turns, we have the most glorious warm months, seldom too hot, often just right like the day you wrote about. I like your painting too--it looks like you have a handle on alla prima.
