I love moss. I shot this picture of the old barnyard hickory back during the spring. The sun had slipped toward the horizon and the angle of light on the tree makes it look like it's wearing a beautiful green sweater.
The heat of summer turned the moss a dull shade of green with brown patches, but even then it looked beautiful.
I've run out of things to say tonight so as my lovely spouse always says at the end of her blog: Good night, sweet dreams.
Plus if you are lost, moss always grows on the west...er...south...ah north or east side...one of the tree. There is a reason I stay out of the woods.
ReplyDeleteIn the absence of distinct shadows, I must deduce from text and bright areas in your beautiful photo that moss is growing on the northwest trunk area. Watson, I never get your limits.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I have an affinity for trees. Moss does add character.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at joeh's comment about moss growing on the "???" side of the tree. I've always thought that, too. Walking through the woods in West Virginia, I would comment about that very subject. If I had to rely on that, I'd be up the creek without a paddle.
ReplyDeleteI, too, love to look at moss growing on trees. So beautiful.....
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, my friend.
Hugs,
Jackie
When I am in the woods I do notice moss. rmember as a kid dad said the moss grew on a certain side of the tree and I could use that to get directions, but I have found I cannot decide which side it the most 'mossy' plus I just read Joeh, and I cannot remember which side anyway! (So I just stay onthe trail)
ReplyDeleteAnd sweet dreams to you, too!!
ReplyDeleteI love it when it looks like trees are wearing green sweaters.
ReplyDeleteTrees are beautiful all the time!
ReplyDeleteI find moss creepy I don't know why I just do
ReplyDeleteI love that shade of green.
ReplyDeleteYour moss is beautiful...any season! Our Creepy Woods has it's fair share. My daughter-in-laws sister's husband (got that?)..has a doctorate in lichen...I believe that's moss. Who knew moss needed it's own Dr! Good night to you and Jilda!
ReplyDeleteYour mossy tree looks well loved. As long as your beard doesn't turn green with envy, your tree has it made in the shade. Well Rick, I didn't know what to say tonight. I couldn't top Yaya's comment. A doctor in lichen, hehe...
