Today is siblings day. I didn't realize it until I checked Facebook to see if there were any birthdays today.
A few minutes on my timeline and I began to smile. All the pictures of my family and friends posting pictures of their brothers and sisters.
My family was like two families. I had a brother that was seven years older, and a sister that is six years older. I was the baby for 10 years before my younger sister came along and then four years later, a baby brother.
While our lives took different paths as we grew into adulthood, we never had cross words with each other. We gave each other space when needed but we were only a phone call away.
I lost both of my brothers young. Neil died at 50 and my baby brother Darrin died at 34. I think of them often.
Below is a portrait made when I was a senior in high school.
Happy siblings day.

Your family will be with you FOREVER--in your heart!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteHow blessed you were to have brothers and sisters ... if only for a little while. Guess I'll always wonder how that feels. Say, I sure can relate with your oldest sister's hairstyle!
ReplyDeleteIt is rare that everyone in the family got along so that is nice to always have in one's heart. Both your brothers were too young and that is sad
ReplyDeleteYou have been fortunate in your sibling relationships --despite loss, good feelings, good memories remain.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely family. I am the oldest of seven siblings. Two of my brothers are dead. I almost lost one of my sisters last week. They still are not sure what happened. We often fought growing up but when push comes to shove we are family. No one else is allowed to say anything to any of us.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad to lose your brothers at such a young age. My oldest brother passed away at 70 and think of him often.
ReplyDeleteEven once our sibs are gone, Rick, they live on through us. Nice photos and precious memories. Susan
ReplyDeleteI am lucky to have great siblings, who I get along with and see weekly there is no jealousy in my family which I know is rare
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you lost your brothers so early. I love the photo of your family and I'm glad you have good and happy memories to keep with you. I got off facebook because my account was hacked! Thanks for telling us about sibling day....I love all my sibs..my 4 brothers and my sister...they are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI had two Brothers and one sister much older. They were sorta like parents. I was 3 yrs old and had two brothers in WWII.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine losing a brother that young. That had to be tough. I didn't know there was such a thing as Sibling's day. An idea for tomorrow. (smile) I always enjoy learning of families... The sad parts are Life, that is for sure.
