I've tapped keys until I have a crick in my finger and not a word to show. Jilda is sitting beside me tapping away.
She has no trouble coming up with ideas. Sometimes I want to reach over and smack her hands off the keys. But as I've said before, I'm fond of eating and my cooking skills are even sadder than my idea generation skills so I'll keep my hands to myself.
Usually when I'm out of ideas I:
1. Read my old journals
2. Look at cards and letters from my archives
3. Look at Today in History
4. Holiday of the month
5. Look at old pictures
6. Listen to random songs on my iPhone
7. Whine like a baby
8. Wrap the ends of Q-tips with aluminum foil and stick the other ends in my ears to us as creative antennas.
9. Look at the souvenirs on my desk
10. Take a walk
What do you do when you're fresh out of ideas?

I'm not often short of ideas but taking a walk is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteMs Soup
I don't write.
ReplyDeleteI write my posts far in advance so that I don't feel like I have a deadline. I do make notes of ideas that pop into my head so that I know what points I want to make when I go into a writing frenzy. I can always change the dates on my postings if there is something current that I want to write about. I believe that the reason Jilda has an easier time with her writing is that she writes about her feelings. She is so in tune with her feelings that she opens herself and it flows.
ReplyDeleteI have a little box full of scraps of paper with things I've thought about, read, dreamed, funny-sounding words and places, and when it's pretty full, I put it all into a blog. (If I can stay awake or no one's mad at me, etc.) It used to be once a week but now more like once a month. That's why there's you (and him and him and her) to fill in the blank spots!
ReplyDeleteLike Emma, I write my posts way in advance (& I throw in an occasional rerun) so there's always time to get new ideas--or tune up the old ones!!
ReplyDeleteFor me inspiration is all about things you love, people, and places. Hope you have a great start to this new week. Happy Monday
ReplyDeletePut take a walk on top of the list or take a nap.

Write about not having anything to write about :-)
ReplyDeleteWalk, read, or clean.
ReplyDeleteShucks I think you do good when you have no idea what to write. Me? I could write about that old kerosene heater, they make a great design on the ceiling when the lights are out. SMILE!
ReplyDeleteI read, watch TV, play a useless game...you know, things that will make my life sound like an accomplishment:)
ReplyDeleteI take a breath and look around me at what is happening and an idea generally comes to mind
