Buckeyes

The wind shifted sometime in the night and began whispering through the pines from toward the north. I could hear the chimes tinkling on the screen porch and the Rose-a-Sharon's brushing against the front of the house which faces north.

We'd left the system in our house switched to AC but the temps dropped below the  thermostat setting so the house was an icebox this morning.

During the night, a limb blew off one of the oaks in the side yard, so I spent a few afternoon hours cutting the wood into pieces that would fit in the firepit.

Afterward, I headed out for my daily walk.  Down by the barn, I noticed the buckeyes are blooming so obviously I stopped and snapped a few pictures.

As I walked on I remembered a buckeye story from my childhood and blossomed into a column idea.  You'll need to tune in a week from tomorrow to read it.

This is birthday week for Jilda, so we'll both work abbreviated shifts. We plan on doing something fun for her birthday.

  1. It's snowing here and we're expecting a big snow storm. It doesn't even feel like spring.
    Have a good week.

  2. Enjoy Jilda's Birthday! Life is good for you two out that direction, as long a the limbs do not fall on the house!

Sounds like a great plan for a Birthday!

  4. The buckeye blooms are lovely. Spring is trying to spring but winter is not quite ready to give up.

  5. So that's buckeye. I thought buckeyes wore helmets and pads.
