The light filtering through the white pine just outside our window this morning was stunning. The living room had the ambiance of a sanctuary. Condensation collected on the outside of our floor-to-ceiling glass making it look as though we'd installed stained glass.
The hummingbirds arrived early sipping sugar water from the feeders as we sipped our coffee. I heard the paperman/woman drive by, so I pulled on my slippers and walked down for the morning paper.
On the way down I noticed a lavender Rose if Sharon out of the corner of my eye. The dappled light from the morning sun backlit the flower. When I stepped closer, droplets of dew clung to the undersides of the fragile petals. The phone lens wasn't sophisticated enough to navigate the delicate lighting, so I stepped back and snapped a few pictures of the flower which was beautiful in its own right.
The day heated up and by the time we walked, the humidity was oppressive. The weatherman swears that it will cool down by Monday, but I'll believe it when I turn down the AC.
I hope you all have had a picturesque weekend so far.

It hit 101 degrees here in Portland today, but it's supposed to cool down to the mid eighties starting tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly. I didn't realize it got that hot there.
DeleteGlancing at the picture before I read your post I thought it was a woman with an umbrella that had been blown inside out by the wind. It is amazing the tricks my mind plays.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, you're right!
DeleteI'm with Joe. I didn't see it at first, but then there it was.

The flower shape and color would be perfect for a beautiful umbrella.
DeleteYour morning sounds truly lovely. I hope you get some relief from the oppressive heat (and humidity) soon.
ReplyDeleteThose Rose of Sharon don't seem to mind the heat at all. We've a lot of them blooming. It's suppose to cool down a bit here too by the beginning of the week. It will be a welcome relief.
ReplyDeleteWe have a tree (bush) with zillions of those flowers. The bees and occasionally humming birds love them. I never knew what it was called before.
ReplyDeleteThe flower is so beautiful...sometimes that one flower does it all. It is also oppressive here heat wise. I hate it...I probably have said this many times:) tomorrow it is supposed to be only 22C tomorrow...I hope so.
ReplyDeleteAh, nice one. I am sure my Sherry has pointed out a Rose of Sharon before, but I still was looking for a 'ROSE' (smile). Bonnie was showing one on her blog a few days back.
ReplyDeleteYep, taking pictures, I am trying to notice the light more! But it ain't always in the right place! ;-)
So pretty! Ours is the same color! Our humidity and temps have both fallen to a very comfy level...I'll send some your way! Have wonderful Monday!
ReplyDeleteMy weekend wasn't picturesque in any way shape or form, but I did survive it although yesterday I had such terrible pain in my chest through to my back but not so bad today
ReplyDeleteSomething I miss in my part of Florida is that it's not very picturesque. I miss seeing yards with beautiful gardens of bright-colored flowers. I've tried planting flowers here and have had no luck. I have managed to keep a couple of flowering plants alive in pots.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Lovely capture. The light is beautiful on the petals of this flower. We call them Altheas here (as well as Rose of Sharon.)
ReplyDeleteVery nice photograph.
