There's a pasture that I drive by almost daily. Gnarled trees that grow just over the fence, look as if they've been there since time began.
Today, the cows were close to the fence munching hay and it looked as though they were thinking about Christmas.
"What is Santa bringing you?"
"A back-scratcher in summer when the flies are bad would be great."
"Antler polish is what I put on my list," another bovine "uddered.""
I pulled into the driveway next to the fence. It's where the cattle owner pulls in to unload the hay.
The cows looked at me curiously for a moment.
Pulling the camera from my bag, I snapped a few photos.
As I pulled onto the road, I called out my window and wished the cows a Merry Christmas.

ReplyDeleteGreat photo.I do not see any cows anymore around here. I will only see them in South Carolina on our way to the beach.
ReplyDeleteLisa.
They sure look different than our cows, except for he calf. Maybe the horn rack is where they hang their Christmas stockings. It's a beautiful picture.

Reminds me of the song Away in the manger, the cattle were lowing... Thanks for the picture.
ReplyDeleteDear Rick, how often I've wished to be an animal whisperer who could really "hear" what cows and horses and dogs and---especially!!!!--cats are saying to one another and to me and what they are thinking. I suspect that often they think deep, deep thoughts but probably also as with us humans they spend a lot of time just musing about the vicissitudes of the day! Peace.
ReplyDeleteI always talk to animals. I don't think anyone's proven they don't understand us!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to cows everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mev above. And I talk to most living things and some dead ones. But I am specially glad you got to wish them a Merry Christmas. YOu were utterly right. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteGood one dude.
