It felt warm enough to swim here today. I didn't work as hard as yesterday, but I handled a lot of things that I'd been putting off until the weather warmed.
The rural county where we live does not offer any kind of recycling. Several years ago I called about it but they said it was too expensive. My thought at the time was, it's more expensive in the long run to ignore it, but I didn't pursue.
There is a non-profit place in Birmingham that recycles plastic, cardboard, glass, aluminum, and other things. I'd been storing up plastic in garbage bags and storing them behind the gardenia bushes. The bags weren't visible from the driveway but inside the fence, they were an eyesore. This evening I loaded those bags into the back of the truck and I will take them to the recycle place in the morning.
I plan to push the politicians a little harder about recycling. I plan to do a feature about it in the paper and maybe that will bring the issue into a little sharper focus.
I hope you all have had a remarkable day.
The picture below was taken the second week in February 2011.
You certainly work hard. Why don't you pay me a visit? I have some chores for you.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
You work hard to maintain your place and so happy you recycle. I have been a real lump today
ReplyDeleteHooray for putting pressure on the politicians. And thank you for recycling.
ReplyDeleteI am loving that snowy scene (we are still having a foretaste of hades).
I agree that recycling will - eventually be worth it's initial cost. I've tried to get a recycling bin for our workplace, but apparently the city makes you pay a pretty penny for having it placed. I won't give up on it though! Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the picture I thought Jilda had finally gotten her snow.
ReplyDeleteI think the best recycling would be to start eliminating plastic and go back to refundable recycled bottles.
ReplyDeletePlastic is insidious, it's everywhere. I've just come from a fruit and vegetable shop where every continental cucumber was plastic wrapped! Grrrrr...
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to hear how your recycling article progresses.
The recycling centre in Birmingham might be outside your paper's remit but there has to be a story there.
Alphie
I hope your story bears fruits. Preserving the environment is for everyone because if we don't take care of it, the younger generation will pay the price for our carelessness. It shouldn't be all about money but about loving the environment to give a darn.
ReplyDeleteYou are to be admired for your effort and I hope the people of your area backs you up. Keep up the fight.
Hugs, Julia
I'm with joeh! I earned a lot of spending money from old pop bottles. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnyway I am glas to see the bike is winning the race in the snow. I love that picture!
I hope nobody was planning to ride that bike right away!!
ReplyDeleteWe recycle at the hospital. It takes a bit of extra time but nobody complains because it keeps the junk out of the landfill and saves the hospital money since our trash is charged by the weight. We get some of the recycled supplies back after they are refurbished. Looks like the snow covered car and the bike are in a race! Bike is winning by a tire!
ReplyDeleteAwesome photo, chores are never endinng
