Beautiful autumn day

I knew by the third sip of coffee that today would be a beautiful autumn day. Call it a hunch. The morning sun turned the path to the mailbox into a bed of glowing embers.

We tend to let Mother Nature do most of the decorating in our yard.  We've tried to intervene, but we are not as creative and have less control over the lighting.

I covered a Rotary Club meeting today. The publisher asked if I would attend and write the story. "There's food involved," he coaxed. I bit.

Arriving early, I found a place within tape recording distance. The gentleman who sat across from me introduced himself. He too was a veteran. His draft notice came two years before mine. He served in Vietnam. I enjoyed the few moments we had before the meeting began.

There are so many incredible stories out there.

  2. Rick, I loved the picture. My daughter host Veteran's Day in her 5th grade class...she said a few years ago, she had mentioned veterans and one kid asked what it meant. So she told them and asked if their were any in their families. Then she had then make stars with their veteran's names on them and hung them in the hall....and that was the star of the her veteran's day salute. She told of one vet who came every year and never spoke, the last two years he has been telling his story.:) Blessings to you and all Vet's. xoxo, Susie

  6. I am struggling to find words for a comment. The picture is awesome. The Vietnam vet caught me off guard. It is still difficult to deal with.

  7. You must be able to speak volumes with him by saying nothing. Only veterans truly understand. I do love that picture
